Screen Cuba is honoured to welcome Cuban actor Joel Angelino,
Joel Angelino is a theatre and cinema actor and a graduate of the Cuban National Theatre School. He has appeared in many Spanish films and has his own theatre company in the Canary Islands where he currently lives called ‘The Magic Window’.
Internationally he is best known for his role in the groundbreaking Cuban film ‘Strawberry and Chocolate’ (1991) as Germán, the sculptor and friend of Diego, played by Jorge Perrugorria. It was the only Cuban film nominated for an Oscar.
Joel went on to develop a theatrical monologue also written by Senel Paz, who’s story the seminal film was based on, which was from the point of view of his character German, and which toured 15 countries.
Most recently Joel Angelino joined Mirta Ibarra and Cuban actor/director Jorge Perugorría at the Malaga Film Festival (March 2026) to present their new film, Anonymous Neurotic, a love letter to cinema. Jointly written by Jorge and Mirta, directed by Jorge, starring Mirta, and featuring Joel.
