Screen Cuba invites you to a unique and diverse celebration of Cuban cinema in London and beyond. After the sell-out success of our 2024 festival, Screen Cuba brought to London’s screens in March 2025 an exceptional line-up of films created by some of Cuba’s most revered directors, alongside newly emerging talent. A remarkable selection of films from the golden age of filmmaking in the 1960s right up to the latest productions, including a small number of films not made by Cuban directors on the island but which present Cuba’s culture in an inspirational way. Once again we welcomed two films specialists from Cuba in the panel discussions, Q&A sessions, special events and reception of the exciting Festival programme.
Cuban film-makers now have a dedicated platform in London to showcase a selection of award-winning works. The Festival aims to help overcome the scarce resources and distribution avenues open to them as the US government blockade deepens. And your attendance will help further because the Festival raises funds for projects underway at the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC) such as the restoration and digitalisation of classic films. With your help, we have already been able to fund the restoration of two short Cuban films in ICAIC’s archive – early animation classics by Juan Padron, which we screened in March 2025. As a result of the success of the 2025 festival we were able to fund the restoration of four more early short animations by Juan Padron, continuing the story of his famous anti-colonial character Elpidio Valdes. We hope to show at least one of these newly restored shorts at the 3rd edition of the festival in March 2026.
