Material aid in use by the film archive team in Havana

In May 2026 Screen Cuba was able to see the material aid in use that we had sent to the ICAIC film archive in Havana last year, in collaboration with Music Fund for Cuba charity and Cuba Solidarity Campaign.

This aid consisted of £2000-worth of protective gloves (900 pairs) and other protective clothing (such as overalls, face masks, aprons and hats) purchased for workers handling archive material, a high quality laptop (donated by a supporter) and materials for repairing film, as requested by ICAIC.

Although they don’t have the technology or resources to fully restore films they are now better able to assess the condition and repair old stock so they know what can realistically be restored by other partners.

Music Fund for Cuba director Rob Miller visited the ICAIC archive in Havana in May 2026, where he met Roberto Carreño Bis, manager of the archive team.
