What could be better? Friday night at the Festival, viewing The Brothers/Los Hermanos with its magnificent music – both classical and jazz – as two Cuban brothers struggle to perform together despite the US blockade. And more is in store. Following the screening, we are delighted that actor and writer Andy de la Tour will host a conversation with special guests. Andy will welcome Nick Gold, a highly respected producer of records by Cuban artists, including the famous Buena Vista Social Club. Another panellist, one of our favourite Cuban musicians living in the UK, is Omar Puente. Omar has been described as an internationally renowned ‘classical violinist with a Cuban heart’, but is well known here for jazz and Cuban dance music. And we have also invited Gladys Gonzalez, Vice President of the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC), who has considerable experience in the Cuban film industry, including in television. An enjoyable evening, with a poignant message, not to be missed.
