Screening of documentary ‘Havana Report’ (1986) about Havana’s film festival.

Plus Q&A with the directors Michael Chanan and Holly Aylett, hosted by Dr Janet McCabe, Programme Director MA Film Programming and Curating.

Followed by panel discussion featuring special guest Tania Delgado direct from Cuba, director of the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema in Havana.

Since its inauguration in 1979 the Havana Film Festival has showcased the best of Latin American cinema, enriched the culture of the continent and brought together the community of Latin American filmmakers.

‘Havana Report’, broadcast in 1986 by Channel 4, documents the 7th edition of the Festival which saw the launch of Cuba’s International Film and Television School and the Fund for New Latin American Cinema in the presence of President Fidel Castro and the Nobel prize-winning author, Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

This event is brought to Birkbeck by Hon Research Fellow, Holly Aylett, and Screen Cuba Film Festival.

Aimed at students of film and film curating but open to all, subject to space. Free entry.
