Plans are already underway for another unique and diverse celebration of Cuban cinema, for two weeks in March 2025. After the sell-out success of our 2024 festival, Screen Cuba is delighted to bring to London’s screens and beyond an exceptional line-up of films created by some of Cuba’s most revered directors, alongside newly emerging talent. Be prepared for a remarkable selection of films from the early days of revolutionary filmmaking right up to the latest productions, including a small number of films not made by Cuban directors on the island and which present Cuba’s culture in an inspirational way. We will also be welcoming two film specialists from Cuba in the panel discussions, Q&A sessions, special events, receptions and more.
The festival aims to help overcome the scarce resources and distribution avenues open to Cuba as the US blockade deepens. The festival will raise funds for projects underway at the Cuban Film Institute, ICAIC, such as the restoration and digitisation of classic films. With your help, we have already been able to fund the restoration of two short Cuban films in ICAIC’s archive – early animations by Juan Padrón, which we hope to show in 2025 .
Screenings will take place at the Garden Cinema, Soho, other London venues, and we are in talks with other regional cinemas to show films outside the capital too.
The programme will be announced on our website and tickets will go on sale in January 2025.
